People

Simon Sinek's TED Talk challenged me to flip the way I was thinking about training.

Ron Hill was a culture-building legend in the companies he worked with. He instantly changed my life when he asked, "Who ARE you?!" after I told my Most Embarrassing Moment icebreaker story at an orientation event. (Which can only be told in person.)

Helen Severson, my grandmother, influenced both my professional and personal lives. She claimed to have never been bored in her 93 years. She showed me how strategic thinking and laughter contribute to a well-lived life.

books

Why She Buys, by Bridget Brennan, highlighted strategies for companies and sales people to connect with all their customers.

Good to Great, by Jim Collins, is a classic because its lessons are timeless. The Hedgehog Concept (chapter 5), in particular, influenced how I approach training and business.

podcasts

99% Invisible changed the way I look at the world - literally. It's a podcast about design and how it shapes the way we live. Favorite episodes: "Octothorpe," "The Calendar," and "The Age of the Algorithm."

Freakonomics Radio is from the authors of the best-selling books and provides "surprising conversations that explore the riddles of everyday life" (from their Archive page). The three "Bad Medicine" episodes from December 2016 gave me additonal perspective on the past, present, and future of health care.
